Stainless steel types 1.4301 and 1.4307 are also known as grades 304 and 304L respectively. Type 304 is the most versatile and widely used stainless steel. It is still sometimes referred to by its old name 18/8 which is derived from the nominal composition of type 304 being 18% chromium and 8% nickel.
Type 304 stainless steel is an austenitic grade that can be severely deep drawn. This property has resulted in 304 being the dominant grade used in applications like sinks and saucepans.
Type 304L is the low carbon version of 304. It is used in heavy gauge components for improved weldability. Some products such as plate and pipe may be available as “dual certified” material that meets the criteria for both 304 and 304L.
304H, a high carbon content variant, is also available for use at high temperatures. Property data given in this document is typical for Bar and Section to EN 10088-3:2005. ASTM, EN or other standards may cover products sold. It is reasonable to expect specifications in these standards to be similar but not necessarily identical to those given in this datasheet.
- Standard: ASTM, AISI, GB, JIS, EN, DIN.
- Surface: black & pickled & bright, grit 400 & 600 & 800 are on request
- Packing: Wrapping with plastic cloth, wooden box or following client's requirement
- Treatment: Hot-rolled, Hot-forged, Pickling, Sandblast, Polishing, Peeling, Cold-drawn,Heat treatment
Drawn flat bar in stainless steel grade 1.4301 / AISI 304 from materials can be readily welded and cold formed. The drawing process ensures an enhanced surface, higher strength and closer tolerances. The material is corrosion resistant and very readily polishable. As a result the stainless steel flat bar is also suitable for a wide range of decorative applications:
- Posts, railings and handrails
- Interior and exterior uses
- Cloakroom rails, clothes rails
- Fence posts, ground sleeves etc.
The stainless steel also known as V2A is the most commonly used stainless steel alloy. Due to its hygienic properties it is specifically used in the food, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics sectors. This stainless steel is non-magnetizable in the solution-annealed condition. The flat bars are available from thyssenkrupp's materials4me shop in a range of sizes (width x thickness x length) as single items or in large quantities.
- Also known as V2A
- Corrosion resistant
- Readily weldable using electrical processes
- Readily formable
- Suitable for low temperatures
- Non-magnetizable (in the solution-annealed condition)
- Frequently used in the food sector

- Flat steel refers to steel with a width of 12-300mm, a thickness of 3-60mm, and a section of rectangular steel with slightly blunt edges.
- Flat steel can be finished steel, can also be welded pipe stock and laminated rolled sheet bar.
- Main application: flat steel can be used for making hoop iron, tools and mechanical parts, and used for building structure parts and escalators.
